Lorde - Hambúrgueres e Saladas

Urraca Salad.

Urraca Salad.

Around the corner from Casa Guedes is Lorde - Hambúrgueres e Saladas.  The narrow entrance is easy to miss but you'll be pleasantly surprised if you notice it enough to pop in for a bite.  The restaurant looks fairly new and specializes guessed it, hamburgers and salads.  I wanted something lighter so tried the Urraca Salad which had black-eyed peas, tuna, hard-boiled eggs, cornichons, and olives in a light vinaigarette.  Continuing with the healthy theme, I tried the freshly squeezed homemade ginger lemonade which was super refreshing.

Overall, the food was very clean and tasty and the owner was incredibly nice and welcoming.  So much so in fact that for dessert, he offered me a glass of Port wine from his friend's new boutique port wine company made locally here in Oporto.  He mentioned the method used in this batch is different from the more commercial port wine brands the region is known for and while I'm not sure exactly how it varies (sigh, language barrier), you can definitely taste a difference.  This innovative version seemed crisper, natural, and less sweet. Delish.

If you find yourself near the San Lazaro Gardens and Casa Guedes is packed or you want something lighter, I recommend trying Lorde.  I'll be back to try the burger next time.
