Abma's Farmer's Market and Petting Zoo
Yearning to get out of the city for some fresh air, we discovered Abma’s Farm, a unique combination of BOTH a farmer’s market and petting zoo! You can load up on your veggies for the week whilst peeping some of the cutest farm animals. What more could one want?
The petting zoo is nicely spread out and organized in a circle walking path with most species having their own designated areas. We were welcomed by the cutest alpacas, bunnies, pot-bellied pigs, goats, sheep, miniature donkeys, and our personal fave - miniature ponies! We particularly fell in love with Caramel, a special miniature pony who lives with the miniature donkeys (potentially because of his wild side?).
The barnyard isn’t too vast but is a great fun activity for animal lovers and/or those with small children looking for a COVID-safe, family-friendly afternoon activity. We went around lunchtime which I would imagine is peak time and we were all able to be comfortably spaced out, have some time with the animals and able to take pictures without too many people around us.
The farmer’s market while quite cute is also very practical and perfect for both picking up your groceries for the week and also bringing home a miniature or full-size pumpkin or two.
Overall, I highly recommend a visit for those wanting to get out of the city whether you’re a couple, friends, or a small young family. We were on our way up to Woodbury for some Autumn/Winter shopping so it was the perfect stop to do some “fall” things before we continued on for our shopping adventure - leaf peeping, apple cider, farm stand veggies, pick up some NY State apples, pumpkins, squashes galore.
